Rosehill Victoria Park´s New Strategies

Erractic Driving

A strategy has been developed to help reduce the number of incidents of erractic driving in the park. Offenders now face serious consequences from the legal team if they either drive in a manner that is likely to put the public at risk or create damage to the park.

Recorded incidents can result in offenders being prohibited from entering the park in their vehicle, face the cost of damage to the park. Including repairs to grass, and have future incidents submitted as evidence towards the issue of Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) which is issued by the court. In addition this information is also passed to the local police where they will arrange a formal home visit to explain that furture incidents can lead to their vehicles being taken from them.

Dog Fouling and Litter

Since July 2004 early morning patrols have taken place to ensure that dog walkers are picking up after their animals. In the events that people fail to pick up after themselves they can be issued £50 on the spot fines. In addition the same fines can be issued to people dropping litter. This also applies to park users who throw litter and cigarette butts out of cars. The fine can be issued simply by taking the registration number of the vehicle.

Gra-Fix

A recent approach, which has seen new graffiti and general damage being monitored on a daily basis, has been adopted in Rawmarshs Rosehill Victoria Park starting with the digital recordings of any new incidents.

All new recordings are checked against a visual data-base of "tags", graffiti and general damage. Once they have been identified appointments are made in school involving Police, Park Ranger, Wardens, School and Housing. At these meetings the matter is discussed with parents. Persistent offenders could find themselves subject to more stringent restrictions if they break the "Acceptable Behaviour Contract" (ABC) which are issued by the police and could eventually be subject to Anti Social Behaviour Orders which are court enforced.

Ultimately the meetings aim to gain the support of parents in addressing these issues.

The collective information about those causing this kind of damage is shared amongst the partners in the project who want to see a long term impact on this and other problems.

This strategy has been supported by many young people who have shown concern that all teenagers are seen as being the same. Young people have been providing information in confidence which helps support this strategy.

If you require more information about any of the above strategies please do not hesitate to contact the Park Ranger (Paul Spriggs) on 01709 524111.
